Alethea’s Vigil Book

Posted on Jul 4, 2013 by in SCA | 0 comments

[27Sep17 From an albume dated 7/3-4/17.]

Master Liam very kindly asked me to make a vigil book for his lovely wife Countess Althea on her elevation to the Order of the Pelican. He asked only for something “simple.” I had begun researching mudejar style books and thought I could adapt that idea using a design inspired by her device.

This is a long stitch binding on blue vegetable dyed parchment from Pergamena. White linen cord for binding, white DMC for the decoration. Blue glass beads I made during the time I was dabbling in that art. (Why yes, I’ll try anything once!)

I was very pleased with how it came out, and was humbled to hear someone tell me it was lovely in its simple elegance. (Thank you Hugh!)
